CHOOSING A MACHINE
The below information will help you choose and order the right machine for your job.
Working Height
The machine platform height will be 2 meters lower than working height. When ordering a machine be clear whether you are talking about working height or platform height.
Required Outreach
Outreach is measured from the centre of the turret so please allow for width of machine including outriggers if required. Also note if the outreach will be over any obstruction.
Carrying Weight
The Safe Working Load (SWL) of machines include personas, tools and equipment - all of these factors must be taken into consideration.
Working Inside or Outside
Machines are available with different power sources. Usually battery powered for inside use, diesel for outside use and possibly dual fuel if working both inside and outside. Remember to make note of any restricted access e.g. doorways and also floor loads.
Ground Conditions
Gradient, wet or rough terrain will make a difference to the choice of machine both for traveling to the work area and the positioning of the machine for use. A rough terrain machine means it will travel over uneven ground not necessarily work off that ground. (All machines must be as level as possible to be raised).
Which Operator
It is the employers responsibility to ensure operators are trained and he must have the correct categories on his license. The IPAF PAL License is recommended.
